What is Isagenix??

This quote hits me every time I read it. Personally and professionally I am witness to this mentality each and every day. Interacting with my 1-on-1 personal training clients or with my bootcamp classes, I see first hand that health and fitness is not a priority. BUT my clients definitely see that it needs to be, they just don't know how and most definitely haven't found their 'why'!

As some of my past blogs have shared I have been battling an injury that has thrown a wrench into the health and fitness routine I have relied on for the past 4 years.
Have I been able to workout? No
Have I been feeling down and unmotivated? Yes
Have I been spending months trying to get myself back to before? Yes
What I have finally realized is that I won't be that same person as before. I have finally learned that it doesn't mean I have lost but that different only means I am going to be better! This injury has been a gift and somedays it is hard to hold onto that, but by chance I was introduced to a nutrition system that is changing everything about me physically and mentally.

I am celebrating six weeks living an Isagenix lifestyle!
Isagenix was just what I needed to redirect my intentions to good health, balance and commitment for ME! I feel great – I lost 9.5 pounds while feeding my body well and enjoying positive mental and physical energy. Simply stated, I am loving my Isagenix journey. When you feel great – from the inside out – all else falls into place. It is easy to stay committed! The program’s aim is optimal good, strong health. I love it!
Isagenix can help get people on a healthy track. I am so in love with these products that I am becoming an ambassador, wanting everyone else to experience them and get the same benefits. This is not unusual I found out -- everyone I met who's been using the products has had amazing results and is super enthusiastic, like me.

The BIG questions that people have, and that I had, is:
Why Isagenix? Why is Isagenix Different?
No matter how you lose weight (calorie reduction, exercise regime) you will need to keep doing whatever that is to maintain the weight loss. The key to the power of Isagenix is that it fuels the body, but the bonus is that it provides the answer to stress, with vitamins, minerals and extracts from around the world.
Why do I expect that the Isagenix weight loss will be sustainable?
1. I can see that great nutrition will help my body lose weight naturally so instead of just consuming food to fill up I am thinking about the nutritional content and gylcemic index
2. Following #1, feeling healthy encourges healthy eating - feeling fat and sluggish just made me want to eat more unhealthy food
3. I saw the effects of cleasing to release toxins and how that makes everything else work like it's supposed to (fat burns, joints feel better), the body will heal itself
4. I am learning that the right types of foods and snacks eaten at regular intervals (and it doesn't take much) will keep me satisfied with no hunger pangs
5. Stress causes overeating (especially at night), and most of us experience stress on a daily basis, these products help decrease stress especially if implementing Ionix Supreme daily. http://bestbodybyamy.isagenix.com/ca/en/ionixsupreme.dhtml

BOTTOM LINE there is no "diet" or eating plan that is going to let you eat fast food, junk food, cakes and cookies and still lose weight. Even if you eat horribly and mange to maintain weight by exercising your body won't be healthy inside, leaving you suseptible to sickness and disease. Isagenix is not a "diet", it is "healthy lifestyle" like a body fortification system that, in turn, allows the body to do its job of burning fat and building lean muscle mass.

ANYTHING you do to lose weight must be maintained to keep it off. I am no different then any of you. After many attempts at keeping weight off I am happy I found something that I believe I can continue successfully. Any changes you make in your eating to move to a healthier place are going to take some sacrifice but I can say my body doesn't feel deprived because it isn't being deprived of nutrition.

Getting to know you

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom” Aristotle

Aristotle was right when he said the above quote as, if you do not know who you are, what you like, what your desires are, how can you ever be happy? So today, we are going to explore getting to know you and how that can lead to your happiness.

The first thing that keeps many people from seeing themselves in the way that they should is the focus that they put on their flaws. No one, absolutely no one in the world is perfect. Focusing on the negative, keeps you from seeing the positive.

To know yourself correctly, listen to the positive and negative thoughts that go through your brain about yourself. Make a list of the things that you don’t like and would like to change. Then find a way to feed your inner critic with positive thinking. If all you hear is negative, it will be very hard for you to get to know the inner you as it may be bombarded with too much to let the good come through.

Another way to get to know yourself as with the exercise above, is to use that list to see how you could become a better person. Are there things that you do that you would like to change? Take everything one step at a time and try to change for the positive.

Then make another list to get to know YOU: write down your likes and dislikes; put down hobbies you may want to try or things you already enjoy doing; what do you like to eat? what do you not like to eat?, what kind of music do you enjoy? Where would you like to travel? What interests you? What qualities do you like in people who are your friends? By asking these things you begin to answer questions that you may not have the answer to about yourself.

Some people don’t realize the effect that their past may have on their ability to know themselves at the point they are now. Things to think of are what kind of support did you have as a child, who helped to mold you into who you are, are your parents still married or divorced, loving or abusive, have you lost someone special, or any instances in childhood that make a person feel happy or sad, confident or insecure, loved or unloved, is another way to look into who you are. See how these things effect how you deal with yourself and other people. Begin to recognize things that may help or trigger you and create a way to better yourself by knowing these things and using them to your advantage!

Then establish who you are. Love yourself inside and out regardless of things you may not like or want to change. Believe in who you are regardless of what society or others tell you.

You are your own unique, beautiful individual. All of us have the ability to restart as many times as we see fit. Do not focus on the negative and always listen to what your heart tells you, as it will lead you to a path of happiness! Remember, You have more to offer than you may know, believe in yourself!

"Happiness depends upon ourselves" Aristotle

Have a Happy and Healthy Day, Cheers :)

The Magic Mixture of Cinnamon and Honey

Did you know that when you combine Cinnamon and Honey they become a force to be reckoned with? A few weeks ago, I had a few clients who were experiencing stomach issues ie: bloat, gas, irritation and were asking for help. So when I started researching a holistic approach to curing these ailments I came upon this crazy marriage of Cinnamon and Honey. The most surprising was the versatility of this power combo. From Bladder infections to Cancer, this duo can be used for so many health related issues. I have even incorporated a mixture of the two with hot water in the mornings to start my day, and LOVE it. I STRONGLY feel the need to pass this forward.

The combination of honey and cinnamon has been used in both oriental and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices known to mankind and honey's popularity has continued throughout history. The two ingredients with unique healing abilities have a long history as a home remedy. Cinnamon's essential oils and honey's enzyme that produces hydrogen peroxide qualify the two "anti-microbial" foods with the ability to help stop the growth of bacteria as well as fungi. Both are used not just as a beverage flavoring and medicine, but also as an embalming agent and are used as alternatives to traditional food preservatives due to their effective antimicrobial properties.

Weekly World News, issue dated 17 January, 1995 states that the mixture is a natural cure for many diseases and a formula for many health benefits:

1) HEART DISEASES: Apply honey and cinnamon powder on bread instead of using jam or butter and eat it regularly for breakfast.

2) ARTHRITIS: Apply a paste made of the two ingredients on the affected part of the body and massage slowly.

3) HAIR LOSS: Apply a paste of hot olive oil, a tablespoon of honey, a teaspoon of cinnamon powder before bath, leave it for 15 min and wash.

4) BLADDER INFECTIONS: Mix cinnamon powder and honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink.

5) TOOTHACHE: Apply a paste of cinnamon powder and honey and on the aching tooth.

6) CHOLESTEROL: Add honey to cinnamon powder mixed in boiled water or green tea and drink.

7) COLDS: Make a glass of lukewarm honey water mixed with cinnamon powder to help boost your immune system during the cold season. It may also help to clear your sinuses.

8) INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on a spoonful of honey taken before food relieves acidity.

9) LONGEVITY: Regularly take tea made with honey and a little cinnamon powder.

10) PIMPLES: Mix honey with cinnamon powder and apply paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash away the next morning.

11) BAD BREATH: Gargle with honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water so that breath stays fresh throughout the day.

12) OBESITY: To reduce weight, daily drink a mixture of a teaspoon of honey with half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder boiled in water with an empty stomach in the morning about half an hour before breakfast. Read: Cinnamon and Honey Recipe.

1. Dissolve a teaspoon of cinnamon powder (or ground cinnamon) in a cup of boiling water.
2. Stir and cover for half an hour.
3. Filter away any big particles and add a teaspoon of honey.
4. Take it in the morning with an empty stomach about half an hour before breakfast. Repeat for a few weeks to see results.

Cinnamon has an insulin boosting property (water soluble compounds called polyphenol type A polymers) which have the ability to boost insulin activity about 20 fold and can benefit people who have high sugar levels (obese people, pre-diabetics and diabetics). Also, read the honey hibernation diet theory to find out how honey contributes to the metabolizing of undesirable cholesterol and fatty acid, provides a fuelling mechanism for the body, keep blood sugar levels balanced, and let our recovery hormones get on with burning body fat stores.

**Caution: Cinnamon itself is an anticoagulant (blood thinner), so it should be used with caution when other conventional blood thinners are being administered at the same time.

Give it a try...bonus, is that it tastes great!

Have a Happy and Healthy Day, Cheers!
